Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo has left the squad's training camp in Copenhagen ahead of their UEFA Nations League match against Denmark. The 41-year-old forward confirmed his exit on social media following a period of growing tactical friction with head coach Jorge Jesus

The rift deepened after Ronaldo remained as an unused substitute during Portugal's 2–1 victory against Norway in Oslo. In a pre-match press conference ahead of the Denmark game, manager Jorge Jesus publicly confirmed that Ronaldo would not be in the starting XI.

Jesus stated: "I told the player that he would not start the match, and that he would be on the substitutes' bench... No player will change my mind."

Minutes after the manager's press conference and following a discussion with Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) president Pedro Proença, Ronaldo packed his belongings and departed the team's base without making a formal farewell to teammates.

On Instagram, Ronaldo stated that he decided to leave after consulting with the FPF president and promised to share "the truth about the reasons behind my departure in due time" while wishing the team good luck.

The FPF confirmed the team will proceed with the remaining 24 players. While reports in Portuguese media suggest Ronaldo may not represent the national team again, his public statement did not formally announce retirement from international football. Ronaldo remains the all-time leading appearance-maker and goalscorer in men's international history, with 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal.
