The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has confirmed that it is investigating 16 cases of unauthorized subletting across the 4,000 social housing units under its management in Hulhumalé Phase 2.

Under current social housing regulations, tenants are strictly prohibited from renting out whole apartments to third parties, though renting individual rooms remains permitted under specific guidelines. FDC revealed that enforcement actions have already been taken against several non-compliant flat recipients. Fines have been levied against five parties, written warnings and notices have been issued to two others, and the remaining nine cases are under active review.

The crackdown on unauthorized subletting comes alongside wider efforts by FDC to enforce residency compliance, resolve safety concerns, and address ongoing payment defaults across the Amaan Udhares and Amaan Dhoadhi housing towers. In addition to property rule violations, FDC noted that 564 housing units are currently behind on their regular monthly rental payments. Corporation officials reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing site inspections and contract enforcement to ensure public housing benefits intended beneficiaries rather than illicit rental markets.
