Minister of Health, Family and Welfare Geela Ali has declared that senior citizens are essential contributors to the growth, social cohesion, and national development of the Maldives.

Speaking at a special event in Hulhumalé held to mark the International Day of Older Persons, Minister Geela emphasized that the knowledge, lifetime experiences, and wisdom of the elderly population remain vital assets for guiding future generations. She noted that national development extends beyond physical infrastructure, rooted deeply in the cultural values, traditional knowledge, and foundations laid by senior citizens throughout their working lives.

Observing this year's global theme, "The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives," the Health Ministry outlined ongoing efforts to adapt social and healthcare frameworks to better support an aging population. Minister Geela reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding specialized healthcare services, enhancing community support networks, and conducting nationwide initiatives across the coming weeks to promote healthy, active, and dignified living for all elderly Maldivians.
