The Maldives Police Service has issued a public advisory cautioning foreign residents and tourists against wearing revealing clothing and engaging in conduct that violates local social and ethical standards in public spaces.
Authorities emphasized that Law No. 11/2010 mandates appropriate public attire, particularly when visiting inhabited local islands outside designated tourist resort zones and private bikini beaches. The police warned that legal proceedings will be initiated against individuals who fail to observe these public decency standards.
Additionally, law enforcement urged employers of expatriate workers, local sponsors, and tourism service providers to actively inform foreign nationals and visiting guests about the nation's cultural expectations to ensure compliance and preserve community standards across local islands.
