The Ministry of Housing, Land and Building Infrastructure has officially launched a major redevelopment project targeting the jetties along the northern waterfront of Malé. Spanning the coastal stretch from the Fishermen's Park area down toward Naadhee Goalhi along Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the modernization initiative is designed to overhaul aging dock infrastructure, deepen harbor access, and create safer, more organized boarding spaces for daily maritime commuters and cargo handlers across the capital.

To make way for heavy machinery, structural repairs, and dredging operations, the ministry issued an urgent public directive requiring all vessel owners and operators to clear their craft from the designated project zone. All berthed, anchored, or moored boats, dinghies, and safari vessels within the specified waterfront area must be completely removed before the strict deadline of 11:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Authorities warned that any craft remaining in the project perimeter past the cutoff time will be cleared and towed by law enforcement agencies at the owner's risk and direct expense. Vessel captains and boat operators are advised to relocate their craft immediately to designated secondary berthing zones across the Greater Malé Region to avoid operational disruptions and potential fines as construction work commences.
