The annual Palestinian olive harvest has officially commenced across the occupied West Bank, but farmers face escalating violence and physical barriers that threaten both their safety and their livelihoods.

As harvest season begins, local farmers attempting to gather their crops have encountered coordinated attacks from Israeli settlers alongside military enforcement actions. Reports across towns including Beita, Deir Sharaf, and villages around Nablus describe armed incidents, physical assaults, and the use of tear gas and stun grenades aimed at dispersing harvesters and accompanying international activists. In several areas, fires sparked during confrontations burned through dry agricultural lands, while bulldozers uprooted groves ahead of the harvest.

Compounding the physical danger are severe movement restrictions enforced by military checkpoints and closed agricultural gates. Many families require official permits from Israeli authorities just to access their own land, while others arriving at their plots find their trees vandalized, cleared, or already stripped of fruit.

The olive harvest serves as a crucial pillar of the Palestinian economy and cultural identity, supporting roughly 15 percent of the West Bank population. With United Nations monitors recording over 1,600 settler-related incidents affecting hundreds of communities this year, local agricultural workers face severe financial strain as restricted access and widespread crop destruction severely diminish their seasonal yields.
